What’s Going On

On October 27, 2014 by Seth

I just realized this week how many weeks had slipped by since my last update. Tempus Fugit.

On the writing front, things are going slowly. My attempt to transition from OpenOffice to MSWord has been unsuccessful, largely in part to MSWord being unfriendly to formatting attempts. I still like a lot of the features of MSWord such as the editing features, but it will be impossible to make it do what I want for publishing. I’ve decided to continue writing as I have in OO, and when I want to proof, simply load the file to Word, then make corrections on my OO file. Tedious, but functional. Also, the self-imposed publish deadline has been removed though I am still aiming to wrap up The Coral Arrangement by year’s end.

On the medicine front, I’ve received an invitation to interview at WVSOM next week. This is great news for me, considering it’s the one and only place I want to go. If they accept me, I’ll start school again next July, which gives me nine months to finish books five and six before putting my writing on the back burner and focusing on my studies. I’ll still write, of course, but only when I need a short break from medicine.

In Harmony’s Way is now available!

On June 3, 2013 by Seth

Quite a bit to tell today. First, “In Harmony’s Way” is now available on Amazon both in print and digitally. I’ll need a day or two to get the different versions linked, but they’re there. I’m very pleased with the way this particular book came out. Originally, I had been concerned that I wouldn’t be able to make it interesting enough, but those who’ve read advanced copies told me such is not the case. All I know is that I’ve go

Second, the fifth book, tentatively titled “The Coral Arrangement”, is coming along swimmingly. I’m already nearly a third finished with the first draft, and I’m hoping to make significant progress this month, as I’ll be taking a long break this summer away from my computer and any writing. If I can get past the 70% mark, I’ll be in good shape to publish December 1st as intended, and hopefully get the sixth book (and reach the half-way point for the series) by June 1, 2014 when my family and I move to wherever the US Army sends us.

Which brings me to family news; the missus is finished with her third year of medical school, which means audition rotations and lots of travel coming up (hence, the writing hiatus for me). We’ll be logging over 3,500 miles in the car and nearly 10,000 miles in the air, so prayers and well-wishes are appreciated over the summer. The good news is that I’ll have a lot of time to catch up on my own reading list… some Brandon Sanderson, some Nora Roberts, and perhaps a recommendation or two from my friends.

I’ll be sure to post another update before heading out for the summer!

New Novel in the Final Steps

On March 21, 2013 by Seth

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update, but this one is substantial (to me at, especially). “In Harmony’s Way”, the fourth novel in The Keys series, is nearly complete. The continuing story of Chastin, Rachel, Arco, Maletalio, and the rest will be available through Amazon on June 1st, 2013.

For now, the manuscript itself is done and revised, and is going through the editing process as we speak. Zeyan Zhang, the artist who’s responsible for the book covers and interior maps, has read the story and is currently at work drawing the cover. I’ve actually had the concept for the cover in mind for some time, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all as soon as it’s finished. It’s an amazing process, seeing the different drafts of the cover as it evolves into the final product.

News in November

On November 17, 2012 by Seth

Book 4 is coming along nicely and is past the three-quarters mark. I promise your favorite character is still alive (for now), but you know bad things can happen in the final pages of any chapter. If I stick to it, the first rough draft will be done by the end of this month, followed by the usual editing/feedback from my beta readers. I’ve already got the idea for the cover, but we’ll see what my illustrator, Zeyan Zhang, thinks.

Not to get ahead of myself, “Prelude to Discord” (Book 3) is coming out in two weeks. Very happy to finally have this available, especially considering the way I chose to end Book 2. I’ll post links as soon as Amazon has it listed.

Back To Work

On September 12, 2012 by Seth

After a few weeks’ of pleasant upheaval (kids starting school, visit from the in-laws, anniversary, and birthday), I’m back to the morning grind. My third novel is done and done, and will be released in December right on schedule. The fourth is coming along slowly but surely, and the first draft should be done before mid-October, if not sooner. My idle fingers are itching to write.
